Walk into a room lit by blacklight wearing this and you become the brightest thing in it. The Paradigm is a halter teddy bodystocking, and it is UV reactive, so the fabric lights up under blacklight while looking like a normal, clean-lined piece in ordinary light. It's cut for plus sizes, which is a point we like: no squeezing a Queen figure into something drawn for a smaller pattern.

The halter neck draws the eye upward and frames the shoulders, and the teddy shape keeps the fit simple. It's a stretchy blend of 95% nylon and 5% spandex. That's mostly nylon, so it has a smooth, slightly sleek feel against the skin, with just enough spandex to hold its shape and let you move.

Size Specs

The Queen size is for cups DD/DDD, with a bust of 40 to 42 in., a waist of 34 to 38 in. and hips of 42 to 48 in. A standard O/S version is also available. The wide hip range of 42 to 48 in. means this piece suits a variety of lower-body shapes, but it's the bust and torso length that often decide how a teddy sits. If you're near the top of the hip range, expect a close fit with moderate stretch. If you're near the bottom, you'll get a little more ease. Measure first with a soft tape, and if you land between two numbers, pick the larger.

Getting the glow right

UV reactive fabrics respond to true blacklight bulbs, the purple kind you see at clubs and parties. Normal household lamps will not light it up. For a home setup, one UV strip or bulb is enough, and the darker the room, the better the effect. White clothing, lipstick, nails and teeth glow as well, so plan your look around that.

Avoid leaving the garment in direct sun for long periods, and skip bleach and brighteners in the wash, both of which can weaken the glow over time.

Care

Hand wash in cool water with a gentle soap, press out the water and dry it flat or on a padded hanger. Keep it away from the dryer. Fold it loosely, and keep it away from rough velcro or zips.

Wear it under a long open coat for the walk in, then drop the coat at the door. Add boots or heels and a simple necklace, and you're done.

Planning the night

If you're heading somewhere with blacklight, ask ahead how the lighting works. Some venues use a few strips, others flood the whole room, and the effect changes with it. Bring a layer for the walk in and out, since a bodystocking-style teddy isn't built for cold car parks. At home, put the UV strip behind you or to the side, so the glow wraps around your shape instead of casting a harsh shadow on your face. A trial run with the light on, before anyone else is around, tells you how it behaves and takes the nerves out of the evening.
